Joining
- Membership is free
- You may join online
- Personal identification with your current address is required
- Signature and proof of address of parent or guardian is required for under 18s
- Additional enrolment required for Internet access
Borrowing
- Your library card is needed each time you borrow.
- Loan periods are:
- Books 4 weeks
- DVDs/Videos 2 weeks
- Magazines 2 weeks
- You may borrow from any of the library's branches
- You must pay for any lost or damaged items lent on your card
Returning
- Items can be returned at any branch
- Items may be renewed twice, in person, by phone, or from our website as long as the items have not been reserved by another
person
- Libraries have an after-hours return chute.
Reservations
- If the title you want is on loan or held at another Mitchell Library branch you may reserve it either at the desk, online or via the OPUS-the public catalogue terminal.
To reserve online or via the OPUS you need your library member number from the back of your library card, use the numbers after the 33/. If your number ends in an "A" please put in a hyphen "-" instead. You will also need a pin number which is the last four digits of your home phone number.
- If we do not own the title required, we can either purchase it or borrow it from another library service. A charge of $1.10 per title is payable at the time of reservation.

Homebound
- A homebound service is offered for library members who are not able to
visit a library branch to choose items themselves. The library items are
selected by library staff and delivered by volunteers or, if this is not
possible, some other arrangement can be made.
- Information such as reading preferences, their home situation, advice for
volunteers who deliver the books (e.g. if there is a big dog in the
backyard) and what has previously been borrowed is kept for each homebound
member.
- This service is available from any library branch.
Charges
- Fines for overdue items 10c per day
- Replacement library card $2.20
- Lost/damaged items at replacement cost + $5
- Computer printing
